SteamWorld Heist Review

Share it:
Doing what we do here at Aussie Gamers Express we are privileged to try games that we would probably look over.

SteamWorld Heist is the second in a series of games from developer Image & Form Games. SteamWorld Heist is a space adventure where you battle in strategic shoot-outs to ensure your survival.
Join Captain Piper Faraday, a smuggler and occasional pirate, as she recruits a rag-tag bunch of steam driven robots to board, loot and shoot your way through enemy spaceships.

SteamWorld Heist is a turn based strategy game, with a bit of twist, it's not slow with a bit of an action game feel. The basic premise is that the Earth has been destroyed and all the characters are steampunk-esk steam powered cowboy robots with a lust for water.
The action is presented as a 2D platformer. Controls are extremely simple. Each turn you move your character to the position of choice to then perform an action, like using your weapon.
How far your turn allows you to move, and still perform an action, is clearly indicated so you won't be running too far and then not able to shoot.
Shooting is where the fun comes in. You're encouraged to use snooker like trick shots to take down your enemies. Many of the best shots come when you're bouncing a bullet off the roof, then the wall and into the back of the enemy. With the exception of a couple of guns with laser sights, all aiming has to be worked out yourself. If you've ever played air hockey you'll be right.

Each robot can be leveled up and will earn their own special abilities, from healing to better accuracy.
No multiplayer can be a bit of a let down for some but with around 15 hours of content you will have plenty to enjoy.

SteamWorld Heist is visually fantastic and a bit of fun to play, and with a download of around 400mb it is quick and easy to get into. Currently priced at $29.95 in the PSN & $19.95 on Steam it is available on PS4, Vita, PC/MAC/Linux and Nintendo 3DS. Coming soon too Wii U, XBOne and iOS.
