Codemasters F1 2016 Preview

We are just over a month away from the red lights going out and we are off racing again with Codemasters F1 2016, the official videogame of the 2016 FIA Formula One Championship. Due for release on the 19th of August this new title from Codemasters will be available on PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC, and will bring gamers closer to the action and excitement of one of the world’s top motorsport categories, both on and off the track.

The latest title will feature all 21 race tracks and teams from the 2016 Formula 1 season, including the new challenging new street circuit in Baku from the European Grand Prix, as well as feature the brand new Hass F1 Team. The game will also be enhanced by the addition of the Safety Car and Virtual Safety Car as well as introducing the formation lap at the beginning of each race. Codemasters have also revealed details of the return of a career mode which was absent in last year’s F1 2015 game.

Principal Games Designer at Codemasters, Lee Mather has stated “F1 2016 is a massive step forward for the franchise. The new career mode sits at the heart of the game and allows gamers to create their own legend over a career that can span for up to a massive ten seasons. Beyond improving upon the fastest and most thrilling on-track racing experience in gaming, F1 2016 uniquely offers the drama and vehicle development that goes on behind the scenes. A rich car upgrade system is fully integrated into a new and deep practice development programme which mirrors the tests carried out by the teams in real life.”

With the introduction of the formation lap this looks like gamers will finally be able to feel all the pre- race tension and build up to a Grand Prix like never before and have control over warming up the tires and lining up on the grid. Another feature to enhance this, which has been announced, is the manual control available at the start of the race and also over pit stops. This will mean you’ll have to engage the clutch and balance the revs as you wait for the five red lights to go out at the start of the race and when pitting to change tires, brake in time and control your cars speed when entering pit lane to avoid any penalties, as the new five second pit stop penalty rule is also said to feature in the game.
It looks as though Codemasters has finally put together a F1 game that truly can bring gamers and F1 fans around the world as close to the world of the Formula 1 circus, with new features that have been sorely lacking in previous titles. The only problem now is we still have to wait a little over a month before we can experience the action.
F1 2016 is currently due for release on 19th of August 2016.
