The Witcher TV Series Confirmed

Fans of The Witcher games may be thrilled to know that Netflix have confirmed they will be creating a TV series based on the hit saga from CD Projekt Red, authored by Andrzej Sapkowski. Rumours have been circulating over some time about whether this creation would come true and who would be best cast in the various role, but primarily Geralt should he be part of this new venture. While none of these details have as yet come to light there is an overall positive feeling from Sapkowski who, while not receiving profits from the game series, will be serving as a creative consultant on the TV series. “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing,” he said during a press release.

Also to be noted is the detail that Tomas Baginski- who directed the intro videos for all three Witcher games as well as the Cyberpunk 2077 teaser trailer and was also previously announced as being the director of a movie version of The Witcher- will direct at least one episode of the show per season.

The details and direction of the TV series is as yet unknown. “The Witcher stories follow an unconventional family that comes together to fight for truth in a dangerous world,” Executive Producers Sean Daniel and Jason Brown (The Expanse) said, “The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling.”

Polish production and visual effects house, Platige Image, will co-produce. Executive Producers Tomas Baginski and Jarek Sawko emphasised that the books’ subtexts will not be lost in the adaptation: “There is a moral and intellectual depth in these books which goes beyond genre. It is a story about today and today’s challenges, hidden under a fantasy cover. It is a story about us, about the monster and the hero inside all of our hearts.”

No other details are yet given to us. But what has been said is enough pause for thought.
